This is a work in progress to compile as comprehensive as possible a listing numbers and titles of individual H.C. White Company stereographs of Arizona. Each listing will include a brief biographical overview, in addition to the checklist of stereoviews complied to date.

The H.C. White Company was founded in 1899 by Hawley C. White. White was an optician in New York City who moved to North Bennington, Vermont and established a factory to produce stereoscopes in 1874, though he didn’t start manufacturing stereographs until 1899, well after his competitors had mature production and distribution networks. The trademark for his stereographs was “The ‘Perfect’ Stereograph.” White’s background as a photographer and optician, and his strict quality control led him to produce some of the consistently finest quality stereographs of this era. White developed a heavily mechanized factory with an automated assembly line factory to produce large numbers of high quality stereographs. He added an innovation to the market, a series of 12 or 25 stereographs printed on photographic paper, but instead of mounting them on card stock, the views were packaged as a loose-leaf set known as a “Stereo–Pack.” White also produced boxed sets, but they are much rarer than those produced by Underwood & Underwood.

H.C. White offered a series of images of the Grand Canyon taken between 1903 and 1906. A total of about 50 images were offered both individually and in 24-card sets. The company operated until about 1914. Their stereo negatives were acquired by the Keystone View Company and incorporated into their catalog.

If you have additional information about the H.C. White Company publishing company, examples of stereographs that are not on this list, or variant titles for any of the numbers or captions I would appreciate hearing from you. Ideally, I would like to obtain either a Xerox copy or scan for my files as well.
Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

Thank you.
